Worship is at the heart of our life together at St. John’s. In worship we respond to God’s gifts of living relationship and material aid. Our time together also provides an opportunity to be in community with our neighbors and encourages our witness in the world. We offer a variety of liturgies to reflect the needs we find in community.
Our Sunday mornings begin with a traditional Rite One service of Holy Communion at 8:00 a.m. Elizabethan language frames our quiet prayer while the sermon, congregational hymn and organ voluntaries support and strengthen us for the week to come.
The Main Parish Eucharist is a Rite Two service held at 10:00 a.m. (9:30 am in the summer). During the School Year, we are led in worship by our outstanding choir. All of the resources of our Prayer Book traditions and the many hymnals of our church enhance our worship experience. Child care is available at his service.
We worship ‘Family Style’ at our 10:00 a.m. service approximately one Sunday per month. These services utilize music, preaching, and prayers which are appropriate for all ages. During the family service, you can expect a sermon from the aisle and musical offerings from members of our congregation.
On Thursday mornings we gather for Holy Communion at 9:00 am in our Meditation Chapel. This intimate service often focuses on the lives of the saints. Several parishioners bring their canine companions to join us in fellowship and prayer.
The Meditation Chapel, which is open for private prayer whenever the buildings are unlocked, is also the place for Daily Evening Prayer at 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. This simple vespers service concludes the work day with Scripture (especially the Psalms) as well as prayers for ourselves, our community, and the world.
