[ Youth Formation ]
The goal of youth formation at St. Johns is to create spaces for children to come closer to God. We strive to help children feel comfortable, loved, safe, and valued at church, to teach them about the roots of our faith, prepare them for active participation in a community of faith and worship, and encourage them to live and share the values of our traditions.
Church School classes meet most Sundays between September and June. Class begins at 9:45 am and the children and teachers join the gathered community in the Sanctuary in time for Holy Communion. Children in grades pre-K to fourth grade are engaged using the Godly Play curriculum and fifth through seventh graders follow a lectionary-based curriculum. Each curriculum provides a format for age-appropriate conversations about Scripture.
A Confirmation class is also convened annually, typically geared toward eighth graders. The timing of these meetings is dependent on the available Spring confirmation dates.
Youth are also encouraged to become active members of our parish by serving as acolytes.
